Five students of Dhaka University have been awarded scholarship on 9 November 2016 for their outstanding performance in exams, says a DU press release.
Two students of the Department of Fisheries of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Prof. Mohammed Shafi Trust Fund scholarship” for securing the highest CGPA in MS examination of 2013 and BS Honors examination of 2014 respectively.
Three students of the same department have received ‘Amena Latif Trust Fund Scholarship’ for their outstanding academic results.
The recipients of Prof. Mohammed Shafi Trust Fund scholarship are- Mst. Khadiza Begum (MS) and Md. Inja-Mamun Haque (BS). The recipients of Amena Latif Trust Fund Scholarship are-Md. Mostavienan Eshik, Md. Al Zahid and Shawon.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the scholars as chief guest at a function at the departmental auditorium of the university.
Chairperson of the Department of Fisheries Prof. Dr. Kaniz Fatema presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof. Dr. M. Imdadul Hoque and donor of the trust fund Prof. Dr. Mohammed Shafi addressed it as special guests. Prof. Dr. Mahmud Hasan delivered welcome speech.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the students to work hard for development of fisheries sector in Bangladesh.
He also called upon the students to equip themselves with the spirit of our Liberation War as well as moral values. ‘We want to produce morally developed graduates along with their academic excellence at the university, he added. DU VC thanked Prof. Mohammed Shafi for his outstanding contribution to develop fisheries education and research in the country.
Earlier, DU VC inaugurated the “Prof. Mohammed Shafi Fisheries Building” as chief guest. It may be mentioned that Prof. Mohammed Shafi, the founder Chairman of Fisheries Department had donated Tk. 70 lac to DU authorities for construction of two floors of this building.
