The government on Monday banned admission for current session in four private medical colleges now running operations without fulfilling the code of conduct outlined in the Private Medical College Policy.
The medical colleges are named as: Northern Medical College in Rangpur, City Medical College at Gazipur, Asian Medical College at Ashulia and Nightingale Medical College at Ashulia, said an official handout on 7 November 2016.
It said the decision was made at a meeting held at the Health Ministry, with Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim in the chair.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek, Health Secretary Mohammad Sirazul Islam, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad and Secretary General of Bangladesh Medical Association Professor Dr Iqbal Arslan, among others, attended the meeting.
Failing to fulfill all the criteria within a year, the handout said, the four private medical colleges would be shut down once the deadline is over. The medical colleges were identified as major violators of the rules and regulations by an independent government investigation team recently.
Mohammad Nasim urged the team to complete the investigation into all other private medical colleges within this year and submit the report to his ministry accordingly, the handout added.
